Neobank Brand Identity

A complete visual identity for a fintech startup challenging the status quo of personal banking — from logo system to motion language.

The Challenge

Traditional banks feel intimidating by design. Their visual language — marble columns, serif typefaces, muted palettes — communicates authority, not approachability. Our client wanted to flip that paradigm entirely.

The brief was deceptively simple: create a brand that makes people want to open a banking app. Not out of obligation, but genuine delight.

Research & Discovery

We spent the first three weeks interviewing 40+ potential users aged 22–35. The recurring theme wasn’t about features — everyone expects instant transfers and budgeting tools. The differentiator was emotional tone.

“I want my bank to feel like a tool I chose, not an institution I’m stuck with.” — Research participant, 27

This insight shaped everything that followed.

Design Principles

We established three core principles that governed every decision. The interactive component below demonstrates how each principle manifests in practice — this is a live React component embedded directly in the case study:

Interactive Component — React inside MDX

Every element serves a purpose. No decoration without function. The interface disappears, leaving only the task.

Visual System

The identity centers on a custom wordmark built from a modified geometric sans-serif. We stripped away unnecessary strokes until each letterform carried maximum clarity at minimum complexity.

Color Strategy

The primary palette breaks from fintech conventions:

Typography

We paired Space Grotesk for headlines with Inter for body text — the same system used on this portfolio site, proving the combination scales from product UI to marketing.

Iteration Tracking

During the design process, we tracked iteration cycles per deliverable. Here’s a live counter demonstrating the kind of micro-interaction we built into the brand’s digital toolkit:

Motion Language

Every micro-interaction follows a single rule: movements should feel like a confident hand gesture, not a machine animation. Spring physics with moderate damping, never linear easing.
